Cara wondered how much longer this could go on. Even the quick flight was exhausting. It was true, she was used to living in a pandemic. She didn't like being so close to people. What was going on with this company? Getting them all together like this. And in the middle of the night no less.
She looked over at Kenny, hoping he knew what to do. She was obviously no help. Although, she'd been there longer than he had. She winced. Were they going to tell her she was doing everything wrong and decide she might be wanted by the FBI or something?
Oh, there was a meeting all right. The men and suits got up and talked about security. Some slides were shown. Cara almost dropped off to sleep on Kenny's shoulder. Yes, she was yawning badly before it was all over. Still wondering what all the hoopla was about. She wanted to ask Kenny if it was a merger of some sort, but before she could ask there was Andrew. Jody's Andrew standing like he might be the star of the show in the middle of the crowd. Cara was stunned. She didn't even know they worked for the same company.
"Fancy meeting you here," she was smug, but he was smugger. Naturally.
"What?" He winced. Well, she wasn't going to let this get by. She had a thing or two to say to her almost brother-in-law, Andrew.
"So..so.." Cara plowed her way over and looked up at him. "So you just break up with Jody after giving her, Chuck."
"Chuck?" Andrew made a face as if he had no idea what she was going on about.
"So ..so you think it's OK to leave her like this and..and let her stay at your place..just..just to make it up to be all on her own. Is that it?" She was practically in a shouting match as the room emptied out. Of course, Kenny stayed behind her. "Well..well..she's doing fine, you know. She's got, Aaron!" Cara practically wanted to fling his forehead with her middle finger.
"What?" Now he was really furious. "We didn't break up." He was quite dumbfounded.
Cara kept looking up at him about the choke, but she swiftly turned to her trusty co-worker. "Come on Kenny let's get out of here." She tugged the sleeve of his shirt along as she marched out.
"But..but Jody and I didn't break up!" Andrew shouted to an empty room.
Cara sighed. Just one more thing she'd have to fix, but she needed to get to the bar first.
Interesting
ReplyDeleteNice chapter :D
ReplyDeleteGood :-D
ReplyDeleteUy ojala todo les salga bien. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteOoh this sounds interesting! they clearly have differnt perceptions of whatever happened... and this company event, hmm.
ReplyDeleteAndrew resurfaces! At Cara's business meeting in Kansas, no less! So weird. And I totally agree with Cara that the meeting itself seems shady, especially considering COVID. I hope Andrew finding out about Aaron doesn't ruin Aaron and Jody's friendship.
ReplyDeleteSuch an awkward moment!
