Jody wanted to let Kara know everything going on with the baby. But of course, she couldn't get through. Yes, it was like a dance with the family at the hospital.
First, everyone went into the birthing suite like it was some kind of party. Before she knew it, they were back in the hallway. Naturally, her brother Jake, who she never saw as of late, wanted to know all about Aaron. Honestly, neither were ready for that. Of course, he had to ask about Andrew.
Luckily, her mother cut in and told Jody and Aaron to get some fast food. So they ended up in line at KFC of all places.
"What's the matter, you look tired," Aaron said. Of course, she was driving. He didn't drive. It wasn't that he couldn't. He never had a chance to get a driver's license thanks to his mother.
"Oh, it's nothing," she promised yet she wished Jake hadn't mentioned Andrew. Really she was too tired to call him about the baby. She knew he would be unaware of all the birthing and hospital stuff. He wouldn't care. Still, she tried to call Kara again. Nothing. Suddenly, her phone went dead.
"Well, that's all I need." She wanted to throw the cellphone out the window.
"Let me take a look at it," he said.
"It's fine." She said she didn't want to waste any more gas than she had to, charging it in the car. "I'll do it later."
They'd already picked up burgers at Sonic but of course, her mother would want KFC. Her mother reminded her, "We need choices."
Jody noticed the car in front of her finally moved so she lunged forward.
"I wish you could have stayed at the hospital," Aaron then said. "It's important for you to be there. I just feel awful that..that I should be driving."
"It's fine. Thank god I'm not the one my mother is going crazy over." Jody sighed.
"How's she going to be if you ever have kids?" Aaron looked over at her.
"Well, she won't have to worry about it," Jody told him. "I'm glad she's got Jared and Angel to worry about."
"I don't think she's worrying," Aaron gave her an even-lipped look.
"She can be crazy. Give her some pop-wine and she might be dancing and stripping within the hour." She gave him an open grin. He grinned back.
"No wonder your mom is best friends with my mom." He pulled a lock of blonde hair behind his ear.
"Do you think we'll ever get out of here?" Jody sighed. Finally, the car picked up its food and they were at the window.
"I bet you're hungry," Aaron said as she was paying and she was giving him the bags of chicken. He went through the last one and got out the popcorn chicken to open.
She let him feed her a piece of chicken. Yes, he was always right about these kind of things.

ReplyDeleteI love this car ride with Jody and Aaron. And what Jody says about her mom is so funny: ' "She can be crazy. Give her some pop-wine and she might be dancing and stripping within the hour." She gave him an open grin. He grinned back." Aaron is such a calming influence, just what Jody needs. You say it all in the spot-on ending: "She let him feed her a piece of chicken. Yes, he was always right about these kind of things." Sigh! 🍗
