Thank God, Kara was in Kansas City, or at least it was a passing thought when he looked up to see Angel in a puddle of gushing water.
Jared was prepping some pork chops. He quickly slid them into a baggie and put the meat in the fridge. He would leave the rest to clean up later, but he rushed to wash his hands.
"I think it's time to go," he said very calmly, hoping the nurse that Angel was wouldn't decide to have the baby at home.
She nodded still in shock. "I didn't know this was supposed to happen." She looked down at the puddle. She was barefooted. It was as if she was in her own private flood right in the kitchen.
"Don't worry about it." He wrapped a bath towel around her and took a whole bunch more with him as he struggled with her, the carry -on and whatever else he could find that might be needed to get to the hospital. Of course, he had to go back in to find her slip-ons
She messaged her dad.
"Don't text anyone else," he said surely there would be someone like his mother who could text everyone else. So he knew where they were going. He knew they'd filled out paperwork and would be ready to be ushered into the maternity suites. Actually, the room was huge and yet family oriented with some added hospital gadgets to monitor the baby and mommy.
He left it to the nurses to get Angel out of her wet clothes and into a gown. There were a few little tests ran to see if all was well. It was.
Before long Angel's dad and Fan arrived. Then Jay showed up along with their brother Jake and his significant other from Iowa.
"What?" Jake gave him a bug-eyed look. "We're not supposed to be here?"
"No, no..oh no," Jared shook his head, thinking Jake never came to anything he invited him to.
"It's not every day any of us has a kid, you know," Jake informed him.
"Well, I'm glad you're here." Jared gazed at his brother thinking this felt more like a mixer than a baby being born.
Finally, Jody and Aaron came in with bags of fast food. Of course, Angel couldn't eat and even if Jared was hungry he wouldn't dare eat in front of her. But she was in a pleasant mood. Jared wondered how long that would last.
Soon, the nurses pushed them out into the hall. It was time for the doctor to look at her. As of yet, Jared wasn't sure she'd had a contraction. She hadn't said anything, but he soon learn that she'd been having them since early morning.
"Early morning?" Jared winced. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't want to worry you," Angel shrugged. She took his hand for a moment as if she wanted him to be there at every turn. Soon the doctor was telling her she hadn't dilated much. Just a few centimeters. It sounded as if the baby was in no hurry to get here.
Jared sighed. He was already frazzled. Before he knew it, his family was back. This time he took the burger and fries. He'd have to eat something to stay awake.
Better eat, it's gonna be a long day (or night)! Hope it goes smoothly!

ReplyDeleteWhat a nice reunion for Jake and Jared! And I love your mixer line: ' "Well, I'm glad you're here." Jared gazed at his brother thinking this felt more like a mixer than a baby being born." Good thing Jared took that burger and fries. I agree that he'll need to stay alert and strong. ๐๐
