Cara wasn't sure where to go first when she got back. Of course, she dragged Kenny along.
"What else have you got better to do?" She'd asked him after work. After all, she needed a boyfriend. at least he could do that much. Of course, she left him stumped but he went along for the ride.
She hoped Jared could help. Although, she had to be the Auntie she always wanted to be. She at least brought disposable diapers, even if they might have been for toddlers. But she didn't apologize. She cooed and went on with the baby. Of course, she made Kenny hold Freddie. She was too clumsy too.
"Maybe you'll learn something from Jared." She'd decided it was better to talk to Angel about the Jody situation instead of Jared.
"I kind of made a mess of things when I went to Kansas City," she started with Angel who was already in the kitchen making something.
"What? You and Kenny?" Angel looked at her wide-eyed while Cara hugged herself yet found she needed cookie dough to eat before Angel could put them in the oven.
"Oh, no." She squinted with a laugh. "Not that...it's about Jody." That's when she told Angel about bumping into Andrew. "I thought they'd broken up, but I guess not." She talked about the strange phone message from Jay. "God, he's so protective of his little sister." She shook her head. "But..but I think Aaron and Jody should move out of that place of Andrew's. You know, get their own place."
"That does sound like the right thing to do," Angel agreed. This shocked Cara even more. The two of them on the same page. "I'll talk to my dad. He'll know what to do."
"Right," Cara did her best to smile. Cara's dad was never helpful. All he'd ever cared about was what he wanted. Not about her. "I wish I had a dad like that."
"Cara, you know you're not alone," Angel told her. "We all care about you. We want you to be OK. We don't mean to leave you out."
"Oh, I didn't mean to..." she sighed. "I'm just .." she didn't want to finish that sentence. "Just talk to Jody, will you. I think it's time she faces the fact she's not with Andrew anymore. She's with Aaron."
Kenny had never held a baby before, but it was a warm feeling he didn't know could happen. It was weird and yet the energy of it made him happy too. Still, he wished Cara would have held the baby instead of him. She was the aunt. He had no real connection to this infant.
"So are you really into my sister?" Jared wanted to know.
"What?" Kenny thought he might drop the baby. "Oh..uh, um..we work together."
"How long have you been with her?" Jared came close as if Kenny better be honest.
"Oh..um..just the one time." He admitted. "But it wasn't what you think. She..she.." How did he explain this? Yes, she took his clothes off and was really into him. "But..really..nothing happened. Nothing." Making out with her was possibly the best moment of his life.
"Are you sure about that?"
Kenny gritted a smile. Well, he liked her thinking something had happened. It was after all a big emotion for him. She was so much more responsive to him now. It actually made him happy. He'd never had a girlfriend before. Didn't Jared know what a real nerd he was?
"Oh, I'm just letting her think it," he finally whispered. "Just don't tell her."
Jared laughed then as if it might be the best joke he had ever heard. "I think I can live with that." He then told Kenny.

ReplyDeleteUy que tierno. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteDespite the chaos of her own life, Cara delivers some wisdom: ' "Just talk to Jody, will you. I think it's time she faces the fact she's not with Andrew anymore. She's with Aaron." ' She's with Aaron -- I love that. Like Jody doesn't even know it herself, but it's an incontrovertible truth. And then the second part, when we find out that Cara didn't really sleep with Kenny! But that he just wants her to think they did! Such a great twist. It's kind of fun seeing Cara at a disadvantage, all the while realizing that it'll probably work out for her in the end.
