Oh, what had Cara got herself into? For starters, she wasn't sure where she was when she woke up. At least, her underwear was on, but not Kenny's.
Kenny. Her eyes flashed trying to remember last night. Where were they? Oh, the bar. She sighed as if she really needed to go back to sleep, but she didn't.
She checked her phone. Naturally, she got a horrible voicemail from Jay and she still wasn't sure what that was about. She didn't remember drunk dialing him. She sighed and set up and put her bare feet on the floor. She looked at the chipped black paint on her toenails. Instantly, she wondered about the last time she'd had a pedicure and did Kenny notice?
Cara looked back at Kenny. Had she really had sex with him? Really? She shut her eyes. Yes, there had been cheap drinks at the bar. Maybe even a drinking game or two. She thought she was doing fine. Obviously not.
She hadn't thrown up. She never did, but as soon as she got to the bathroom she let out a belch and it was awful. She knew this shit was getting old. Why did she do these kinds of things? Why? Her body couldn't take much more of this lifestyle. But making a change was not an easy thing. Especially, when she had parents that had never changed.
Her phone was still in her hand. She didn't bother to splash her face at the sink just yet. After all, the most important thing was to relieve her bladder.
Maybe they didn't have sex. Maybe she didn't need to know. She'd decided while sitting on the toilet for so long. She would not bring it up. Again, she was back to another voicemail that she'd somehow missed.
This time was Jody's sweet little voice announcing the birth of their new nephew. He had an ungodly long name, but they were going to call him Freddie. Cara smiled. The thought of someone calling her Auntie left her pleasantly surprised. Now she just had to start acting like one. She sighed and started the shower. They needed to get to another cyber attack something another. Hopefully, they weren't too late.
She could have stayed the rest of the day under the hot water as she reached for the soap. She couldn't say if she was in Kenny's room or if he was in hers. Frankly, she didn't even remember getting a room. God, and to think someone had gone through all this labor last night to have a baby at four in the morning. While Cara wasn't exactly sure what she was doing at four in the morning.
She reached for a towel to dry off and wrap around herself. Another to wrap her wet hair in. There was only one towel left for Kenny.
"Hey, Kido," she barked as she gave him a nudge. "We're gonna be late. You better hurry."
He squinted as if he might be ill and looked a tad embarrassed that she saw his skinny ass as he scampered off to the bathroom.
Really, she didn't know what time it was. But no one had called yet. Finally, she took a look at the time which was there all along on her phone. She smiled. It was only a little after seven.
"How in the hell did that happen?" She laughed. But with her luck, it might have been seven in the evening.
Oh dear

Ah, the old did-we-or-didn't we. Never a good place to be! I like how you parallel Cara's maybe one-night-stand with the birth of the baby. Talk about contrasts! And the detail about Kenny's embarrassingly skinny ass is funny. Still, I wonder what the fallout from this will be. There's always something . . .
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for using my blue florals! That dress is on my drying rack right now, and looking at it makes me so happy. The Be Nice superimposed on it here is especially sweet.
Congrats on getting your next COVID shot! Your encounter with the fussy old lady does sound unpleasant. Something similar happened to me at JCPenney years ago. She was just so angry! Oh well. I hope you are reaction free and enjoying the crisp new weather. I'm trying to, but it's still weird.🍁
