That hairdo doesn't do what it used to

It was tragic. No, not the thought of becoming a grandmother. Actually, Fan always wanted that. Truly she did. Just not from Jared. She'd always had it in her mind that it would Jay and Amanda to start a family. Instead, they just had animals.

Oh, it was a terrible start to the year. Just how worse could it get? Donna was no friend. And now she had Sal. Honest to God, she knew he was her only genuine Man friend. But still.

And that daughter, Angel..what a piece of work! Fan laid in bed many a night worrying over what Jared got himself into. Of course, she would not speak of it. They hardly spoke to each other as it was. Yes, she needed her family more than ever, and there they were in their own world. While she was trying to survive.

She'd worked for months now at the nursing home as a cook. It never failed she was being tested for COVID weekly. It was not the easiest life. None of her kids wanted to hear about it. She couldn't even drink a shot or two of Tequilla with Sal anymore to talk of her troubles.

She guessed Donna and Sal were a thing. She wouldn't dare bring it up to either of them. What were they doing? Well, she knew what she would be doing if she...

Fan shook the thought. It felt as if she spent a lot of time in the industrial-sized kitchen just thinking. Thinking way too much. She needed to be making a strawberry poke-cake for fifty or so old-timers. And she couldn't help but think about what Jody was doing with Aaron now. How could that be?

That guy she was engaged to never came back from Kansas City. Supposedly they were still engaged, but Aaron moved in with Jody and her dog. The apartment was paid up for the rest of the year.

The thought of Donna's boy with her daughter gave her an itch at the back of her neck. She could feel the locks of her washed-out hair coming undone, even under a hairnet. This was definitely the time she wasn't ready to meet the love of her life. Especially, when she suddenly smelled something burning. Christ! Life was such a bitch.

  2. Fan's got a lot going on! I love getting inside characters' heads, so I really enjoyed this. The end is so good: "The thought of Donna's boy with her daughter gave her an itch at the back of her neck. She could feel the locks of her washed-out hair coming undone, even under a hairnet. Way to sneak the strawberry poke cake -- and those wild sandals (collage) -- in there too! :)
