Oh, hell no

Amanda was in total shock when Jared showed up at her workplace Visiting Angels. She only manned the phones there and did clerical work on the computer, but at least it was full-time and it gave her good health insurance. Also, she loved the people there and she was great at customer service.

Naturally, everyone wanted to know if that good-looking guy was her boyfriend.

"You know, I'm married," she almost snapped, trying to explain to the other two that Jared was her husband's brother. Jared only smiled as if he might whisk Amanda away and they might become lovers or pirates.

Amanda tilted her head as if she knew his story already. She knew Jay wouldn't want her to give in, but she always took pity on him. After all, he was Jay's little brother even if he was taller than him. He didn't look like a trouble maker or had she forgotten all the hardships Jared gave his older brother Jay.

"How about I come home with  you?" His smile was open. How could she resist?

"Sure," but she wasn't counting on him staying at their house. The last time he was there, a girl came over and Amanda didn't think she would ever leave.

If they got home in time, Amanda would have dinner ready before Jay got home. He was never in a good mood if there was nothing on the table. She guessed that's what happened when one worked in finance down at the car dealership. Actually, he was the best cook. He'd grown up being a short-order cook while in high school down at the local diner. Her one-pot meals were hard to compare to his fluffy eggs and burgers. But maybe if she had dinner ready he might be in a better mood.

"Why don't you let me do the cooking," Jared said on the ride home. After all, he'd taken lots of cooking classes. However, he didn't finish up. He'd flunked baking, but Jared could cook too. She thought maybe Jay had taught him.

"Sounds good," Amanda smiled. So five minutes later, Jared was in the kitchen starting the hamburger on the stove. At least, she knew Jay might eat Jared's food. Jay was not a fan of her cooking. Sometimes, it was hard to win with Jay.

By the time, Jay walked in, wearing the company polo and dark slacks, it was starting to smell like beef stroganoff.

"Babe, why did you let him come over?" he asked in his deep butter voice.

"Oh, well-" she didn't know where to begin, but she coaxed him into the bedroom and shut the door behind her.

"You know, he's got no place to go," Amanda did her best to stay sweet and not too sassy because she knew he never bought that mood.

Jay rolled his eyes with a sigh and slipped into his flannels and a black tee.

"You remember what happened last time?" He held her shoulders as if he wouldn't dare shake any sense into her. "You were furious. You hated him so much and you were the one who said NEVER AGAIN NEVER."

Amanda winced trying to hold on to her smile. She had no idea what to do with Jared. If only he were a puppy, but then he wouldn't get along with the cats. At least, the cats really liked Jared.

"After dinner, he's going to mom's."

"But..but they don't get along," she felt a little sad about that but she remembered their fight at his other brother's wedding. Of course, his mother and Jared were both drunk then and got into a very loud shouting match. "They're so much alike."

"I don't really care," He said it was about time they hashed out their differences.

"But..but she just moved in..to her own place.."

Jay only shrugged as if this was her problem, not his.

  3. Poor Amanda. You can see she is the kind of person who doesn't want to hurt anyone but that is impossible. In life, one always has to pick sides, you cannot make everyone happy.
