Jack had finally found it. He'd taken it upon himself to clean out Kim's trailer. His Dad said someone should have it who might need it.
He'd finally found Grady's birth certificate. Her ex-husband's name was on it. Suddenly, Jack felt so sad that he probably should call him about the news. He didn't know why he hadn't already. As he looked through the information on Grady, he noticed he and Grady had the same blood type. Of course, that didn't mean anything. A lot of people had the same blood type.
Things had gone OK with the foster system. Maybe he'd just see if he could adopt Grady and be done with it.
Of course, before he could think much about it, his Dad already had a lawyer for him.
"You're always one step ahead of me, aren't you?" Jack had a lunch date with his Dad and the lawyer. He had all the stuff he could find on Grady.
"Somebody has to keep you in the right direction." His Dad just smiled and Jack wondered why his Dad hadn't ran for office yet. He was quite a politician.
"Do you want this stuff?" Jack had it in a big envelope and was ready to hand it over to the lawyer.
That was when the lawyer informed Jack the news. Jack was Grady's biological father.
Jack thought he might choke on his burger then. It was good news, but it had to be a lie. A big fat lie.
"She said that!" Jack gave the lawyer a scowl.
"Yes." The lawyer nodded.
"OK." Jack muttered, but he didn't see how. He really didn't. He just shook his head. His Dad slapped Jack on the back as if he'd done good some how, but Jack was at a loss for words. He didn't know what to make of any of this. It just felt weird.
