Jack wasn't really ready for this. He didn't know why. Everything else had fell into place, but when the contractions started during dinner, it kind of spoiled his appetite even if she'd heave the word "Eat" out ever so often. Those contractions were coming a lot quicker than anyone planned.
They got situated at the hospital soon enough. His Dad came to stay with Grady. Of course, her mother had to come along even if Kelsey insisted that she didn't want her too. It felt like a slow process. Everyone, running around circles, it seemed just to get Kelsey in the car.
"Just don't wreck my car." Was all she said to him as if her mother would be really mad if he did. He got her there, hoping this would be a bonding moment with her and her mother, but instead, Kelsey screamed at her mother and told her she couldn't stand her perfume. He'd hoped he'd have some time to get coffee, pace the halls, but know she grabbed his hand so tight. There were times, he really did think she might turn into something not human. Finally a little after midnight, he got a hold Rex when Jack told the nurse he had to go to the bathroom.
Kelsey finally got around to telling him about Rex that night when Jack guessed he decided she could stay. He just looked at her as if he'd expected to hear that. It was a small world, after all. Then there was all this talk about how her mother thought she had it all figured out for her about the baby. Kelsey told him she'd changed her mind. She wanted to keep the baby, but she didn't want Rex there when the baby was born. Jack didn't want to make Rex, mad either.
"Yeah, its coming. You might want to get here." He said to Rex as soon as he heard his voice. He listened to Rex sound so indifferent and kind of sad. "Just come on. Just get your ass down here. You'll be glad you did." He smiled when he got off the phone. He was definitely not going to offer any names. The baby might be named after a dog, and he guessed that wasn't exactly fitting.
