just part of the job

"I wish you'd stop worrying about him." Heath was busy washing the dishes. Nick had made a point of saving a plate of the chicken casserole for Rex. "He's a big boy. He can take care of himself."

"He took off on foot. I can't say anything to him without him taking it the wrong way. I just asked what he was doing. Like he needs to be playing poker, right now." Nick was looking out the front door. The fireflies were out, lighting up the yard.

"He'll be all right." Heath could only hope he met someone and ran away with them. Honestly, it was hard to keep himself from going spastic with Rex around. Heath just wanted some down time with someone. He dried the last dish and went to get Nick.

"You can't just waste away worrying over him and the baby. You have to let him make some decisions. You can't make them for him." Heath sighed.

"I never have before, now have I?" Nick looked back at him.

Heath put his arms around him.

"You have enough on your plate, right now. OK." He took his hand then. They went out on the back deck. They'd found a wicker sofa that Heath wasn't afraid to sit in with Nick, thinking it might fall, apart. "Now come on, let watch the fireflies put on a show." It was good to be close to Nick. And if Rex found them being all cuddly, it wasn't going to get to Heath. Nick leaned in. They kissed. He really hoped they made Rex sick to his stomach.
