Nick felt a little lost on campus.
Things had went fine at the library. He was given a book to read up on the technical end about how books were checked out and kept a record of there. He hadn't even seen a computer there when he first visited. It still baffled him that the library was so quiet and small.
And here he was on campus in the a field of concrete and wide open spaces. He was freezing as he walked across campus. If only all his classes could be in one place. This was why he wanted to take classes online. Also it would help to have someone like Ravi to help him out, a little. For the first time, he didn't like being so all alone. There were a different breed of people here. They weren't from the city. He felt like an outsider. These were people who were native to the landscape. Heavy, hearty and evidently always ready for a keg party. Or so, Nick had gathered already.
Then to see someone in shorts as if this cold meant nothing to them, Nick felt so out of place. He wasn't sure he was going to like it here. What had ever came over him to decide on this college?
1. the price was right.
2. his credits would be OK here.
3. he'd be closer to Heath's family.
Even so, he'd gotten a few unhappy phone calls from back home. Why hadn't he been home for Christmas? And the fact that he was taking a risk. He just had to show them that it was all going to work out, but as he looked at his schedule now, he had to wonder if he'd bitten off more than he could chew. He was definitely going to be busy this semester.
