Nick felt a little uneasy at first when he got to the library. He felt as if no one was there, and he didn't know what he was suppose to be do. Finally, the fellow who ran the place piled 3 books on the counter for him to read though.
"You get through these and then you can have my job." He smiled as if he were ready to take off to Florida, any minute to escape the snow that began to fall outside.
Nick slightly smiled, unsure what to say, but to start reading. Of course, after the first page he was ready for sleep. He practically dozed. As if was no one came in to the library. Mr. Unbanks stayed in the back cataloguing. Nick didn't even know where the bathroom was. Finally, close to four someone came in, and to Nick's surprise it was somone his age, he thought. Naturally, he went straight to the back. Nick wondered if he worked here. But as it was, they'd be closing in thirty minutes. It was a bit of a mystery. Nick took a walk around then and finally went to the back and asked Mr. Ubanks if there was anything he needed to do before they closed up.
"Do I need to get a book drop, or anything?"
Mr. Ubanks chuckled. So did the young fellow he was with. Nick wasn't sure what to make of them.
"Don't even bother," Mr. Ubanks said. "Nick, I'd like you to meet my son, Jack."
Jack looked him over and shook his hand. He gave him a sly smile as if he knew something that Nick didn't. Suddenly, Nick felt uncomfortable. He wasn't sure why. It was probably nothing, but he couldn't wait to get home.
